In Library Orientation I shared with you a number of databases (private libraries with paid for information) to help with your research papers and projects.

In a particular, we looked at the GALE Virtual Reference Library and Proquest.

The purpose of this assessment is to find out if you are able to type in keyword(s) in the search window of a database to locate information and then cite that information properly using the citation tools/cite this available for that article.

You will need to answer the following question:

  • What did Elisha Otis invent?

Click on the link to the Online Databases link below. Look at the list of reference books under the title of GALE Virtual Reference Library and the description for Proquest and decide which database will meet your needs.

  • Click on the databse and begin your search.

After you have have found the information you are looking for, please follow the steps below:

  1. Open up Microsoft Word
  2. Write down the answer to the question, What did Elisha Otis invent? (Try to use your own words when you answer this question. Remember, if you copy more than 10 percent of the sentence you need to put what you copy in quotes.)
  3. Locate the link citation tools or cite this located on top or side of the article you are viewing. Copy the citation for the article to your Word document as well to indicate where you got your information. Note: You may also find the Source Citation at the bottom of the article.
  4. Save the word document to your folder and name it ARHS Library Information Links Test.

Note: a citation is the information which identifies a book, an article, a website etc used in a used in one's research. Information include the as well as the author, title of the article, title of the source, pages, and date.
